Estimating a fish weight using a flexible ruler/tape measure

Here are some simple formulas........................

Fat bodied fish (Bass, etc)
Multiply length X girthy X girth = Sum
Divide sum by 800

Narrow bodied fish (Trout, etc)
Multiply length X girthy X girth = Sum
Divide sum by 900

IE: 20" Trout
12" Girth
20" X 12" X 12" = 2,880 divided by 900 = 3.2 lbs

Let us know if you know of any other methods other than using a scale

I do the same or use a scale. I learned this trick from one of my fishing buddys. He was always so competative and never left anything to chance, since his girlfriend always out fished him. lol I never really used it, but I quess its good to know.

I have used this trick a few times. Last year though i set a weight goal just for fun, and used a scale so i would be fairly accurate...............................................didnt make the goal in case you were wondering....LOL

I don't worry about the fish's weight anymore, unless its a monster or I'm fishing in a tourament. You do know that female fish absolutely hate to reveal their true weight. lol
