NJOA - ACTION ALERT

NOAA Fisheries and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Fishery Management Council are considering cutting 2017 summer flounder recreational quota by up to 40 percent. Unfortunately, this decision is being based on an outdated adn innacurrate benchmark stock assessment from 2013.
If this reduction goes through, it would be devastating for one of New Jersey's most popular recreational fisheries. Recreational fishing for summer flounder employs over 10,000 people and generates over $1 billion in revenue coastwide. A 40 percent reduction would crush local tackle shops, party boats, charter boats, recreational anglers and other facets of local economy that rely on them.

My understanding of where NJ is in the process is a bit different.
Hasn't NJ decided to go out of compliance to continue with last year's regs and force NOAA's hand?

I really hope you're right, that NJ will challenge NOAA, But we'll have to wait and see.

I may be completely off base here. But that was my understanding based on what I have read elsewhere.

No matter what the best we can expect is to repeat last years regs which weren't the best to begin with.
18" Fluke are hard to come by until August from my experience.

Fluke regs are now finalized for 2017. 3 fish at 18" with a shortened season.

NJOA News Release
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has affirmed New Jersey's summer flounder fishing size, bag limits and season, meaning the three fish at 18-inch rules adopted by the state earlier this year will remain in effect through September 5. The decision, including provisions for Delaware Bay and Island Beach State Park approved by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, finds New Jersey in compliance for management of summer flounder.
