  • First off your information is really off, there are no muskies or northern pike in canistear, there are muskies in other lakes in this watershed such as Echo lake, but not here, there is only one ramp, a gravel one with limited parking, special permits are required, one for your boat and one per fishermen also. The fishing is pretty good most of the time, great for smallmouth bass, so-so for large mouth, there are walleye, but night fishing is not allowed...also no trout of any kind in this lake, many years back it was stocked, but it hasn't been done in probably 20 years, and the lake had extensive work done about 15 years ago which required lowering the water level significantly, so very doubtful any trout remain from back then. Most fish are nice sized, I fished there yesterday and landed 3 smallmouth, two in excess of 3 lbs, and lost 3 more, one pretty large one, shorline fishing is only posssible in a few spots as the tree line ends right at the waters edge.
