The winter boat work is done! We decided to get a crew together and explore a few offshore wrecks to see what we could find. We had Tye, Brett, Uncle Butch, and Tom on board, we left the dock at 6:30 am it was 29 degrees a clear morning. We made our first stop 14 miles off the beach a usually productive wreck in 85 feet of water, it was pretty much lifeless we gave it a while adjusted our position then moved on. While on the way to our next stop we noticed a boat sitting on the wreck we were headed to so we changed course and made a stop on a wreck about 33 miles off the beach 118 feet of water, the water temp was 42.7 degrees the warmest water I saw was a whopping 43 degrees! This stop was showing some signs of life there were plenty of begalls, and if you got off the wreck just a little the spiny dogfish were thick. We did start seeing a few Cod fish which was what we hoped for. Tom Caught the first keeper Cod. We had a little flurry here caught 16 cod kept 11 then it shut off. We stayed with it then moved to a small snag which just produced all Dog fish. We moved to another wreck in 80 feet on the first drift Tye pulls a keeper Cod off it we decided to anchor and that was it 1 Cod as we moved the boat around the wreck as soon as we got to the edges the dog fish were relentless . We called it a day with 12 keeper Cod and 5 Shorts. The sea conditions were great nice to see the Cod are making a comeback deeper wrecks are the way to go. It was nice to get out, great day on the water!
