Is this a good time of year for catching carp? What bait should be used? Saw soom in the shallows yesterday and they sniffed by bait but no takers.

Honestly, any time of the year can be good carp fishing. Obviously, winter tends to be the slowest time of year but can still be very productive with the right baits and techniques! I've found summer to be the best with spring and fall coming just slightly behind summer.
