The Striper fishing this spring is the best we have seen in years. It started in April and seems to just keep getting better .We fished Sunday May 16th with Charles Larosa and his 12 year old Grandson Chris. Charles called for a trip and said he and his grandson have been pursuing a keeper Striper for 3 to 4 years and Chris has a goal of catching a 30lb striper. When they got to the boat you could see a unique bond between Chris and his grandfather, very heartwarming to see they both have a shared passion for fishing.Too many people measure the success of their fishing trip by how full the cooler is, how cool to be a part of this day! Joe and I helped them on board and off we went! On the way I could hear Joe talking to Chris and I heard Chris say he didn’t sleep all night he was just too excited about the trip. Chris’s family was busting on them, and said they were wasting their time; they were probably not going to catch that big Striper. Charles confidently told everyone to get the grill ready they were going to bring some fish home ! We were out of the inlet about 6:45am and we headed up the beach where fish were found the day before. We began trolling a few miles below the Seaside Pier in about 55 feet of water. We were pulling bunker spoons a white and a green and white, Joe set the lines and about 20 minutes into it, the port rod goes down, green and white, Chris was up he fought the fish like a pro bringing the fish to the boat in about ten minutes .The fish was gaffed and boated it was a lunker, we knew we just met Chris’s goal ,,mission accomplished ! We got the scale out and weighed the fish at 38 lbs ,,what a slob! Pressures off, Little did we know Chris was just getting warmed up,this kid could catch fish!We continued up the beach and got a few bites along the way boating a few others above Chris’s goal of 30 lbs. Chris reeled the first few fish in then he let his Grandfather reel one in. When we got that one to the to the boat we figured out why Chris let his Grandfather reel it in,,, it ended up being only 22lbs (Too Small for Chris lol) he's now a Striper Slayer. The day went along well Charles caught a fish in the mid 30lb range, and Chris landed a few more. We ended up with 6 keepers and dropped 5 fish. What a great experience sharing the day with Charles and Chris, two great guys that reminded us there is more to fishing than a full cooler, however they did have it all a full cooler, a great time, and an everlasting memory.

Betcha Chris slept real well last night ,with a big ol smile on his face!!

Tight lines
